The UMIL (Biometra Department, UNIMI)
The UMIL (Biometra Department, UNIMI) unit brings together expertise in chemistry and physics to address fundamental and applied questions in biomedical research, with a strong interdisciplinary approach and consolidated collaborations with international partners.
The interdisciplinary composition of the unit includes:
- Synthetic chemistry: extensive experience in the design and synthesis of glycoconjugates, including polysaccharide analogues, glycosylceramides, and saccharide-based compounds in collaboration with national and international partners.
- Computational chemistry and modelling: strong expertise in molecular modelling, simulation, and digital approaches to predict biomaterial behaviour, bridging basic and applied research.
- Experimental physics: research on the structural, dynamic, and biomechanical properties of macromolecular systems, lipid membranes, nanogels, and polymeric scaffolds. Consolidated experience in the study of the physico-chemical properties of complex biological and polymeric systems, with access to advanced experimental facilities and large-scale instrumentation.
This combination of expertise allows the Biometra team to contribute in an integrated manner to the design, simulation, development and characterization of advanced biomaterials, ensuring that the activities are fully functional to the definition and implementation of the different WPs within the TEN4CARE project.
