From July 20th to 22nd, 2026, the TEN4CARE project proudly took center stage at the NANOMED Summer School – “Medicinal Tissue Engineering”, hosted at the Department of Drug Sciences of the University of Pavia, Italy. This intensive, high-level program brought together master’s and PhD students to explore the full spectrum of tissue engineering and regeneration, spanning from basic research to clinical and regulatory approaches.
The event proved to be an exceptional platform for the TEN4CARE consortium to share its holistic and translational approach to tendon regeneration. Our team’s strong presence demonstrated the project’s commitment to advancing smart biomaterials while keeping clinical needs and societal impact at the forefront of innovation.
The scientific and organizing committees of the summer school included key TEN4CARE members, Prof. Giuseppina Sandri and Prof. Silvia Rossi (University of Pavia), who not only introduced the course but also expertly chaired and moderated several scientific sessions throughout the three-day event.
The consortium contributed a comprehensive series of lectures that mirrored the project’s multidisciplinary nature:
- Clinical Needs: Giampaolo Brichetto (Italian Multiple Sclerosis Foundation NeuroBRITE Research Center & Rehabilitation in Multiple Sclerosis – RiMS) opened the consortium’s interventions with a deep dive into “Tendon disorders: Clinical Pathways, Unmet Needs, and Emerging Regenerative Perspectives”, grounding the technological developments in real-world medical challenges.
- Societal Engagement: Deborah Bertorello (Rehabilitation in Multiple Sclerosis – RiMS) highlighted the importance of active patient involvement in her presentation “Bridging Science and Society in Bio-Nanotechnology: The TEN4CARE Journey”, demonstrating how the project integrates experiential knowledge into device design.
- Advanced Materials: Beatrice Lucia Bona (University of Milan – UMIL) shared cutting-edge developments in her talk on “Thermoplastic biomaterials for tissue engineering and regeneration”, showcasing the core technology driving the TEN4CARE 4D nanocomposite scaffolds.
- Clinical Translation: Prof. Adriele Prina-Mello (Trinity College Dublin – TCD) provided a critical roadmap for bringing innovations to the market with his lecture on “Next generation medical devices: translational approach”.
- Knowledge Valorisation: Ángel del Pozo (Biokeralty Research Institute) wrapped up the consortium’s contributions with a highly practical session titled “What’s next: the use of knowledge in research”, equipping early-career researchers with the tools to manage intellectual property and maximise the impact of their scientific results.
